As freshmen at Missouri State University, Kate Foster and Sean Hogue had a whirlwind romance that quickly led to serious talk about marriage. They are still very young, Ms. Foster is 21 now and Mr. Hogue 22, yet their lives have been tempered by disaster — the tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo., last May and destroyed Ms. Foster’s home.
